Far better for them to remain in Australia and try their luck here, ' ' said Mr. Ken Hall when annonncing that Cinesound was loolcing for a new star to play opposite Lloyd Hughes in ■ a forthcoming production, "Broken Melody," says a . Sydney papor. "We are searching for a girl with poise and baclcground who possegses charm, personality and', a good speaking voice," said Mr. Hall. "Our intention is to huild her up as we built up Shirley Anu Eichards, who has become so popular every where, " Mr. Hall said that they did not want a girl with "an Australian acccnt, which we are doing our utmost to discourage in every way." "What do you call an- Australian aceent?" he was aslced. • "That peculair intonation caused by .people ; speaking through; their teeth is' the ' best way to descfibe it,"' he 'replied. Mr. Hall did not agree with/overseas critics that all Australians spoke "with an accent. " , . "That is not the case, but one doos hear many people who are prone to speak incorrectly, the rosult being a harsli intonation."
