j Fortnightly Meeting Tlie fortnightly meeting of the St. Andrew's . Men's , Club was held • last night in St. Andrew's Hall wh.en there was an attendance of over 50 members. The meeting opened With the. usual community sing conducted by Mr H. J. Grieve, with Mr W. Lord at the piano. A warm welcome was extended by the president, Mr Bedgrave, -to several visitors present. Mr D. J. McKay gave an interesting ■■shorf impromptu . address on Shanghai, his impressions and des.criptions being xnuch- appreciated by all members. The club was fortunate in having on its musical programme a well-known Itrio of Napier- "nnasicians, Messrs E. Gv Stevenson, I. Prime and Ulrick Williams, and -Mr Donald Davies, of Hastings. The main- address of the evening, was given by Mr S. I. Jones, who chose Samoa as his subjeet. Mr Jones gave a graphic outline of how, when the Great War broke out, tho first contingent of 700 men from "Wellington and 800 men from Auckland was drawn up, and of the ' voyage to Samoa, the !andingt reading of the proclamation and of the general life of the New Zealand ers while in Samoa. Mr Jones said that tennions of the old Samoan contingent were still being held eaeh. year. The president thanked the epeaker ■ for his address. The members then adjourned for supper, " the National Anthem bringing another suceessfal night of fellowship to a close. . " * *
