Military Aerodromes
Amatetjr.
Sir,— - I am glad to see that Mr Barnard realises the absurdity of a military aerodrome at Napier. Who that has given the matter a moment 's thought would dream of putting the expensive plant required within sight and gun-ilre of deep water? If a military aerodrome is established in' Hawke's Bay, my guess is that it will ( be tucked away in somo quiet corner • under the hills at the back of Ruataniwha or the Takapau plain. But is it necessary to establisk one at all? The Ohakea drome, 100 niiles north. of Wellington, is also withiu 100 miles, as the plape flies, of Napier, and only 150 miles from'New Plymouth. It is thus able to xeaeh any point in the southern half 0± the North Island in under an hour, With a seeond 'drome either at Rotorua or Gisborne to cover both sides of the East Cape distriet, and the existing one at Auckland (which" incidentally is near the sea) the whole hiorth Island could be covered in an hour. — Yniirs ofn
Hastings, August 25/37.
