DU11BAN, Aug. 7. A very old gold .watcli, which Jias been handed down fiom Captain Cook, the famous explOrer, figured iu the Newcastle (tNatal) court in a theft case.- A native wlio had nine previou's convictions, was found guilty of the theft of this watch togetlier with some cash from a private house. The complainant was a daughter of Mr G. G. Itimer, of Newcastle, who claims direct desccnt from Captain Cook, and it was stated in evidence that the native had only been engaged as houseboy for a t'ew days when he stole the articles and disappeared. He was trar-cd bv the police, however, and the watch, which is much treasured, v.-a- reeovered. He got three months.
