HUSBANDS ARE ABSENT 11 MONTHS OF THE YEAR
There is a small town in Yugoslavia called Garicnik, where many of the womenfolk do not see their husbands for 11 months of the year. For cem turies the menfolk of this village haye been recognised as the most skilled building operatives in the wOrld, and there is always a great demand fox their services in England and America. Many of these fmo craftsmen were engaged upon the Empire State Building in New York as stonemasous and woodcarvers, This is the reason for so many wives being without their loved ones for such a long period. The men, as a) xule, start for home about the end of June or early in July, and upon their arrival'the whole community givea itself up to feasting and general rejcicing. Since there is really only one month available for courtship and marriage, a special day is hxed for mass marriages, as many as.300 couples being united in the open alr. This day is nsually July 15, and the festivities continue until the end of the month. Then most of.the husbands leave home again for 11 months.'
