-Press Association.

By felegraph-

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Given a feast of the ball from tho scrums and allowed plenty of room in which to work tho Wellington backs had a day but against ihe Southland Rugby team to-day. -Wellington won IS — 5 (five tries, two converted, to a converted try). Wellington 's suceess eame substantially from Lambourn's hooking, but the dccidiug factor was that the visiting backs failed to play up close on the defence. This allowed Thompson (the Wellington half) throw ,out long passes which enablcd the back line to work well into thc open. Iu addition the rearguard rau straight and passcrl crisply. For Wellington Wright (2), Guy, Lambourn and Burns scored and Griffiths converted two. Ward scored for Southland and Ballantyne converted. ,
