NAPIER PARK CLUB
President's Annual Report The past ye.ar's activities of the Napier Park Racing Club are re'viewed as follows by the presi'dent, Mr " Cecil Louisson, in the 'annual report to be prasented at the annual meeting. of members on Monday: — "It is again my privilege on behalf of your committee to lay before you the aunual report . and baTance sheet for the past year from which it will be* noted that after writing off £213 14/7 as depreciation there is a small surplus of £26 0/11. The expenditure for maintenance purposes "h"as been thc lieavy sum of £285 expended in excess of last year having been found from maintenance reserve account and ordinary revenue. The assistance given to clubs by the Government for some time past was eontinued last year and was grcatly appreciated, but taxation still takes a very large portion of the club's revenue the araount paid during the period under review totalling £2939 11/2. "A profit was shown on the spring and autumn meetings, but unfortunately a small loss was incurred on the winter meeting notwithstanding oue of the race days being a publie holiday. Thc result can .be attributed' to small fieids, roor class of- horses engaged and the apathy of the business people and residents of the town. If an improvement in the attitude of the people towards racing in. Napier is not forthcomipg there is a possibility of the loss of the club's racing dates. "I attended the annual conference , of the New Zealand Country llacing 1 Clubs Association held in March last when the club's remit that the minimum weight 7st 71bs be reduced to 7st was unanimously carried, It was subsequently decided to forward a eopy to the New Zealand Racing Conference and at their meeting the proposal was carried unanimously. I desire to take this orportunity to congratulate Mr J. B. MeLcod and Mr T. H. Lowry on their re-election as president and vicepresiacnt of the New Zealand Racing Conference respectively. Both gentlelticn are members of this club. "I regret having to record Ihe death of Mr C. E. Twist, who was an ex-presi-acnt of the club and a steward for many years. The late Mr Twist was a popular cwner and a staunch supportor of the club, racing his horses ccnsistently at the club's meetings. It is ajso with a feeling of regret that the aeath of Mr A. O'Dowd has to be recorded. The late Mr O'Dowd acted as cleik of the course for many years and ca-.ried out his duties- to the satisfaction of the stewards. "The following officials have been nomlnaied in accordance with the raitt ; — ^President, no nominations having teen received, the present holder (Mr Cecil Louisson) retains the position; vice-president, Mr A. G. Stead; ti eu&nrer, Mr Vivian Cox; committee, Messrs J. H. McNiven, F. G. ISmith, J. W. yandtmann, T. Parker, A. M. Williams and R. J. Joffares. As the nominations' do. 1 not exceed the vacancies the above gentlemen will be duly elected at the annual meeting. "In conclusion I take this opportunity to express the club's thanks to Mr A. M. Brodie, our honorary veterinary surgeon, the staff, employees .and the eiun's caretaker for their services so wilhngly rendered.
