Takapau Win Championship Again . TE AUTE MATCHES

(By

In the final senior Central Hawke's Bay match. of the season, Takapu a' showed none of the slackness which was noticoahle in their two previous games'. Defeating Waipukurau "by a five-point margin, tfiey Jcetained the local senior championship for the fifth successive year. In last Saturday' s match it was, as usual, the Takapau forwards who turned the scale in their team's favour; unlike most country forwards, they were always on hand to assist their hacks in defence. Territorially the game was very even, vpith "Waipukurau doing a full share of the attacking, but as they have now lost twice to Takapau it loolcs as though the championship has been won by the right team. In gaining third place on the competition ladder, Otane put up a good performance. In. th.© lator stagas of tne season they lost several of their best players, but as they have plenty of junior talent available . they should again be prominent next year. Moascar Cup Match. The Palmerston-Te Aute clash at Waipawa last Saturday was far less spectaeular than most school matches. Always a strong defensivo team, Palmerston Boys' High School "sat down" on their early lead, and for the raminder of the iirst spell play was confmed to the forwards, In the second half the Te Aute forwards launched several determined thrusts which culminated in tries, but, apart from these, they. were seldom dangeTous. The Maori backs persisted in kicking wlien the obvious policy was to give their wings a cliance. Tho Palmerston captain, Beard, who dropped four field goals against Napier, lost several chances for liis team by attempting to emulate this performance; all of his attempted "pots" were intercepted by later oppouents. Next Saturday' s Fixture. The main attraction next Saturday will be the Victoria CollegC-Te Aute match at Waipukurau. For some seasons past this- fixture has provided the most brilliant football seen in Waipukurau. Last year the 'varsity team was heavily defeated, and their team next Saturday vrill probably be much ' stronger than that of last year. I
