There was a good attendance at the fortnightly meeting of Ihe Ruataniwha Eodge of Druids, held in the Oddfo]lows' Hall, Waipawa. A. D. Bro. II. F. Carter presidcd. Two new membors were initiated and five candidates wero proposed for admission. It was decided to bolc'l an extra meeting at Waipukurau qn August 31 to initiate several candidates. At the conciusion of general^ business several games were played in the bowls tournament. Wairoa Library, Two hundred and twenty-four new books were added to the general library and 20 to the children 's section during the past year. The extended hours are proving popular with the general public. At the annual meeting, held this week, the trustees acknowiedged a grant of £25 made by tho Wairoa Borough Council and apprecmtion was voiced of the services of the b brarian, Miss M. Winter. special meeting. A special meeting of the Wairoa Eorough Council was held on Tuesday uight to contirm the special order made in July, to authorise the purchaso of land for Mitchell road extension, and an area at the head of Paul strect, tb i permit the splaying back of the corner. Teachera 1'arewelled. The residents of Tuhara and the Iwitea Maoris farowelled two teachers of the Tuhara Native School, Mrs Jones and her assistant, Miss Moore. Tho gathering took the form of a euchre party and dance, and was held in the Maori hall. Mr T. Pukeko was M.C. and the Iwitea boys made up the orchestra. Tributes were paid by many speakers to the good work dono by both teachers and they were the recipients of gifts. Mrs Jones is retiring after many years servioe, sixteen of which have been served in nativo schols. &
