N.Z. District Governor Back from Nice

WELLINGTON, Tliis Day. Mr F. Hall-Jones# disiffict governor of Eotary in New Zealand, returned to Wellington yesterday after attcuding the World Eotary Convention at Niee, in thq Sopth of Frauce. Mr Hall-Jones, v.'lio travelled to Europe via the Panama Caual. made the return jouraey by way of the IJnited States, and iu-between the two journeys covercu a gpeat deal of territory in Europe, wliere he was able to gather much first-hand knowledge of peoples and places, at tixaes a good deal off tho beaten track. Mr Hall-Jones said in an intejrview yesterday that the first Eotary gathcring he atfended in Europe was what was known as the RotaTy assembly, held in Montreux, Switzerland, after whieh the delcgates went on to Nice, whpre the great convention was held, At the latter gathering some 70 nations were represented, covering the greater part of the civilised world. The only European countries not represented *were Rnesia, Turkey and Albania# but it was lioped that the time would not be long before Eotary would be introdueed to ihose countries also in tho interests of iulernational goodwill. Mr HaJl-.Tones said that tho retiring world prqsidcnt was Mr W. Manier, of tbe IJnited States, and the man clccted
in his place at Nice was M, Maurice Duperrey, of France. Yesterday afternoon Mr Hall-Jones attended a Eotary conference held in Wellington. Those present (to discuss domeStie affairs only) were presidents, secretaries and treasurers of clubs throughout New Zealand, and past-jdisi trict governors. Among the latter werei Sir Alexander Roberts and Mr W.Thomas, of Timaru. There were - ,50 delcgates present. ^ . J" 1
