Supplies oi Iron and Nails Obtained FORMER SECRETARY CHARGED

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Frederick Walter McClennan, aged 34, charged with obtaining galvanised iron and nails valued at £80 12/1 "by means of a false pretence, was committed by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bait was fixed at £100, and ' accused waa ordered to report to the detective office . twice daily. Joseph Henry Wagg, secretary of Briscoe, E. W. Mllls and Co., Ltd., said that accused called at his' office on August 7 and stated that he wa secretary of the New Zealand Institute of Automobile Engjneers, and that the institute proposed to build a hangar at Paraparaumu for tho purpbso of a training ground for engineers, and s qnantity of galvanised iron and ilails was required. Witness xeferred accused to the manager, as a Tesult of which iron and leadhead nails, to the value namcd, were supplied. Accused took possessioji and had the material taken to a garage. He was supplied because of his representations that ha • had authority from the institute. L. B. McKenzie Lynd-Mitchell, president of the institute, said that for three months prior to August 12 ae? cused was secretary to the institute. It was never intended by the institute to erect a hangar at Paraparaumu, and accused had no authority to make ropresentations to any such effect. Other evidence dealt with the disposal of iTon, and a detective said that, when questioned, accused said: "The insti-f tute did not tell you, I suppose, that they owed me £150 for wages. I had to ge the money somehow, as .they did not pay me."
