Gisborne Entry Tops Fat Cattle Market STORTFORD L0DGE SALE The outstanding feature ifi to-day sale of fat cattle at Stortford Lodge . was the exceptional draft of 40 heifers and seven cows, on account of Messrs Hair Bros., Paritu, Gisborne. The draft, which was Tailed from Waikokopu, arrived in splendid order. Their condition reflected credit upon the efiicient manner in which they wer» handled by the railway officials. Exceptionally keen interest was taken in the selling of these cattle, . the pavilion being crowded. Competition was animated and widespread. Tho whole draft showed a splendid finish, having been in a prime condition for some time. The tops among the heifers were in extra prime order, being exceptionally choice quality young beef. The top price was £12 and most of the pens would average 34/- to 35/- per 1001b. The cows were equally well finished and made to £12 5/-, topping the market for the season. Also down by Tail this morning was a draft from Waihou, Wairoa, of female cattle which arrived in splendid order. This draft was not so heavy as the Paritu offering but showed good finish. * The principal entry of ox beef wa» on account of the estate of J. Speedy, Takapau, which. made to £11 12/6 and, would average 33/- per 1001b. . The market for quality pens was very sound and keen but second quality and unfinished sorts were. slow to trade at slightly easier prices. Nothing sold cheaply, there being no snips for the butchers. • /' Realisations. were as under;— HE1FER RATEg.. A pen of small-framed young Red Poll heifers, prime finished and should kill heavy, being in good order, sold to- £7 2 jr. A medium-framed Aberdeen Angus heifer, in medium prime finish, sold at £8-6/-.. In tbe same pen, some. small-grown and unfinished heifers made £5 10/-. COW-BEEF PRICES. A pen of dehorned medium to heavy solidly-finished Hereford coWs, in gjood condition, sold to £9 7/-. A further pen of similar bred well framed Hereford cows, unfinished, and very empty, having been on the road for some days, were slow; to trade to £6 2/6. Tho three following pens of similar bred cows, showing some size, but not looking * their best, being very empty, sold in lines to £6 6/-. On account of Paritu Station, . and railed from "Waikokopu, four well-bred young Hereford. cows, solidly finished, being a prime quality offering, sold 'to £10 15/-. ' . , Down from Waihua, Wairoa, five medium to heavy dehorned Hereford prime-quality cdws, being in splendid order, sold to £10 5/-. ' On accOunt of Paritu Station, a pen of heavy extra prime solidly finished young Shorthorn cows, in oxcellent condition, sold at £12 5/-. OX-BEEF VALUES. A pen of mixed bred bullocks, well framed but unfinished. and lacking quality, sold well to £10 10/- for the tops. The following pen of Jersey cross bullocks, in forward condition, being well below butclier's quality eold to > £9 7/6. , From Takapau, and c|i account of the estate of J. Speedy, a pen of dehorned well-framed heavy Shorthorn and Hereford bullocks, very solidly finished, being a prime quality winter ox-beef entry, sold to £14 12/6. On account of the same vendors, four dehorned heavy Hereford bull- - ocks, solidly finished and prime, but not quite so heavy as the previous pen, sold to £14 1 /- for the heaviest.
