Engine Breaks Down in Heavy Seas

AUCKLAND, Last Night. _ Wibh- her engine broken down in heavy seas, the Salvation Arxuy's 30ft. launch Oranga, used at the Arrny'n home at Roto Roa lsland, Hauraki Gulf, was driven on to the Ponui Reef two miles from Roto Roa at 6 o'clock to-iiiglxt. Two laimches from tlie Admiralty survey ship, ' Endeavour, xvhieh is engagcd in chartcx'ing the gulf, searched for the launch, which was found at 10 o'clock by a launch, owner by Mr A. Insley, of Cowes Bay. The Oranga was towed to port with none of her four occupants the worse for their trying ex« perience. The launch put out from the island to pick up mails l'rom the passing motor vessel Hauiti, en route to Auckland and Coromandel, and on the return journey to the island the engine failed and a strong east-north-easb wind, dipve he? ojft Ponui reef.
