Echicating the Public in Safety Campaign The problem of road accidents, is now reeeiving greater attention than ever before and traffie experts are all concentrating on the snbject. Ignorance and apathy are the two chief oibstacles to be combatted, while caYelessness o,nd recklessness hclp to swell the grim total. How togive all classes of road users a wider knowledge of the essential prmciplcs of road safety and how to bring home to every man, woman aud cltild in New Zealand the need for constant alertness when drivjng, cycling or walking on the roads are the objeets to be achieved. ' An e^ample of the "way in which private organisations can assist in this ail-importaut campaign to lessen thc toll of the road is given .by the manufacturers of the popular Gapstan ci'garettes. With commendable enterprise they have issued a series1 of fifty excellently printed, coloured cigarette cards which show, in graphic pictorial form, the causes of the most frequent road accidents and how to avoid them. The series covers a comprehensive range of road rules traffie regulations and safety suggestions for motorists1, together with many "do's" and "don'ts" for cyclists, pedestrians and all who use our roads. On the reverse side of eaeh card is a clear, concise description of the road rule or safety prineiple illustrated. All deseriptivq matter lia,s' been compiled with the approval of the Transport Department. The value of these timely cards is grcatly enliauced by an attractive album which Uas been issued by the manufacturers to liold the series.
