MRS. MAURICE MASON

Another of tlie old and well-known band of early settlers, in the person of Mrs Florcnce Cliarlotte Mason, wife of Mr Maurice Mason, of Hastings, died yesterday. The late Mrs Mason, who was 74 years of age, was a daugliter of Mr Freeman 11. Jackson, of Wanganui, and was born in tbe vicinity of Lake ^lanapouri, Otago. It was just over 60 ears ago that Mrs Mason caine to Hastings, wliicli was then in its very infancy. Tbrougbout ber long life in this district sbe was closely associated witb tbe worb involved in tlie development and progress of tbe borough and surrounding districts, tbough in recent years she livqd more or less in retireiuent. However, she enjoyed a wide circle of friendsliips for she was blessed with a happy and understanding disposition that endeared ber to all who came in contact witb ber. There are left tbe husband, two sons — Messrs Jackson Mason, of Wanganui, and H. C. Mason of Waipawa — and one daugliterT^-Mrs O. Lee, of Masterton. Tbe funeral left tlie residence, "Te Kohu," Pattison road, Hastings, this afternoon for tlie Hastings Cemetery, Tbe large number following the cortege, and tbe wealth of floral tributes at tbe graveside, indicated the widespread sympatby accorded the bereaved.
