AIR-FORCE TRAINING
New Speedy Avros Arrive at Christchurch Two of the Avro 62G advanced traiaing biplanes ordered by the Goverament for tlie Royal New Zealand A:.r Force station at "Wigram aerodrome arrived at Lyttelton last week. Both aeroplanes will be diepatched to Wigram as soon as possible and assembled for training worlr. It is understood tliat moro of these machines have been ordered by the Governmenl, but no official statement of the Government's orders can be obtaincd. In June the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, stated that no purckaso of purely military aircraft was contcmplated by tlie Government, but Ihat tbo purclim-e o? machines for training was being considerecl. Tlie Avro 02G, of wliicli there aro a nuiuber at tho station uow, has been specially designed for tho eomplete instruction of military flying personnel in nll duties, from iuitial flying -ouward. including the operation of all normal armament and equipincut. It is powored with a 277 h.p.' Armstrong-Siddeley Ohee-tali \r engine, giving a cruising rango of 2 hours 33 miuutcs at a spoed of 108 miles an hour.
