Miller, S.M. For nofc liaving a licence he was fined 10/-. Police evidence was that Ware had at first given the name of the owner of the vehiele when arrested. Senior-Sergeant W. Pender prosecuted, and Mr. V. J, W. Langley appeared in dei'ence. "Tho Tram-.port Department ihspector, Mr. Semple, was on the NapiOrHastings road at *Waitangi on Saturday evening, where he was attending to another mattef,'* said the Sonidirfiergeant. "Defendant drove his car from the direction of Hastings^ and drcve so close to other vehicles on the road that the inspeetor's attention wae drawn to it. Mr. Semple and Traffic* lnspector D. Mana, of Hastings) who was also present, stopped the car, and got the defendant out. "They considered that Ware was im* fit to drive a car and Mr. Semple tOok him to the Napier Police Station, where Dr. Waterworth certified that ho was not in a fit condition to drive. It was not a bad case. "Defendant first gave the name Of William Erneat Grover, who Was the owner of ihe car, but he later admit* ted th^t he was Ware. He had givon an incorrect name because he did not have a licence." Mr. Langley Said that -accused had been trying out the car with a view to purchase. He was not drunk, and had passed- most of the tests success* fully, but .it was .admitted that he had had drink. Had he not stopped he would not have been caught, It wai submitted that Ware had been driving with du'e c&r'e, ahd a fine would probably mfeet* the case.
