The veteran Derniid staged a surprise hollow win in the Ascot HandicapDeputy Ruler was third in the first division of the W elter Handicap. Dual Ratio was not placed. Masetro was third in the Progressive Handicap 'won by Soot. Bengal Lancer was not placed in the Plying Handicap which was won easily by Buzalong. Red Clover was not :placed in the Three and Eour-Year .Handicap which was won by Perimond. 'Aladdin was not placed. MELBOUENE, Aug. 22. At the Moonee Valley races on Satiurday the course Was heavy.
