Replies to the board's letter on the subject of the proposed petrol regu'lations were reeeived from tho secretary of the Department ' of Industries and Commerce and the Minister, the Hon, D. G. Sullivan. The secretary stated that the problem faised by tlie board had been the subject of very serious consideration in bi'inging down regulations in other districts, and after much investigation it had been considered that at least 4800 . gallons of petrol had been purchased before it could be obtained at eoilCessional rates. Whatever quantity was determined upbn, there would always be some who would just fail to qualify ; the^ quantity of 4800 gallons had been taken in view of the fact that originally the oil companies would only instal pumps for commercial aceoiirits if they could take 400 gallons a- month. The board's coramunications would be passed on to the Minister in connection with, the investigations at present being made into the Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay areas, in order to assist him. in arriving at a decision in' regard to the matter. The Minister's reply did not add anything to this letter. The secretary described the increase in the petrol price as "a gift to tho petrol companies." He said Mr H. M. Cliristie was doing his best in support of tlie board's attitude. The chairman explained that a remit on the subject would be considered at the conference, and, with that tho secretary' s actions and corrcspondence wero endorsed. Advico was rpceived that the annual conference of power board engineers and secrotaries would be heJd from Uctober II to 13 and tlie main conference on October 14 and 15. It was agreed that' the' president of the Association, Mr Nash, the chairman of tho board, Mr Russ^lly and the secretarytnanager, Mr Gs E. Fowler, be the board's delegates to the main conference.
