NAMES OF H.B. ELECTORATES

Our Own Corre&pondent.)

Northern, Central and Southern Suggested MISNOMERS AT PRESENT

(From

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. "That this Ckamber considers that the Hawke's Bay provincial electoral districts are now rather inappropriately named, the present designaoions, Hawke's Bay, Waipawa and Pahiatua, being niisleading as far as the areas are concerned, and makes representationa to the Chainbers of Commerce itx the towns concerned, the Members cf Parliament concerned and to the Minister of l'ntemal Affairs and the Electoral Boundaries Commission, asking that the electorates be' renamed Northern Hawke's Bay, Central Hawke's Bay and Southern Hawke's Bay." Thc abovc is the tcxt of a resolution passed at this evcuing's meeting of the Waipukurau Chambcr of Commerce, after it had been pointed out that, not long ago, a Cabinot Minister had gone right past Waipukurau to Waipawa when He had wanted to see the district memUer, Mr H. M. Christie, and there were after misundeivstandings over corresiiondence, It was cxplaiued that the namo had first originatcd from thc fact that it applied to the Waipawa county. Howover, whilo the Boundaries Commission was on thc job, the Chamber considered it woulu not -be out of place to suggest that the Hawke's Bay, Waipawa and Pahiatua electorates be called Northern, Central and Southern Hawke 's Bay. .Tliere was little danger of the Waipawa people misconstriiing' the Chamber 's motives in trying to Irave the present' misnomers altered. During the diseussion, it was pointed out tliat it would be netter to have people thinking of themselves as members of the district of Central Hawke's Bay rather tlian units of Waipukurau, Waipawa, or Takapau, ctc. If a resolution were passed, it should bo sent to Waipawa with an appeal for their support. Other speakers thought the resolution should bo -=ent to the Ohambcrs of Commerce in thc three district3 confei'ned( also to the Memoers for tho districts and the Minisfer concerned. On thc lines of these suggeetions. tho above resolution was draftod.
