B.B.C. Director Impressed With Results ■ CATERING FOR LISTENERS
By Telegr$ph-
AUCKLAND, This Day. The view that, considering its popu lation, New Zealand was as well served by radio as any of the Dominions, was expressed by Mr. J. Beresford Clark, director of the Empire service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, who spent a fqrtniglit in New Zealand conferring with Profes'sor Shelley and Mr. E. C. Hands of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service, and is returning to England via Australia. "I ara glad to have had the chance of making personal contacts with broadcasting officials in New Zealand because personal contacts are alwayi valuable," said Mr. Clark. He considered that the equipment in thie country was thoroughly moderu aud compared well with anything he had seen elsewhere in the Empire. A country with mountains, like New Zealand, was always more dilficult for good xe-i ception than a land of plains. Mr- Clark would not discuss New Zealand 's policy of radio advertising but he said that British taste seemed to be against it. Mr. Clark would givq no opinion on New Zealand programmes but he said that the B.B.C. found it impossible to suit all tastes. "If we did not receive some complaints, we should be worried," he reaiarked. "The more people are given good inusic, the rnora they are likely to demand it." Mr. Clark concluded that he was impressed by New Zealand announcer*. ■ "i i i mmmmmmmmmmrn arm
