THE ANSWER OF REVELATION
9 If we are wil^ing to approach tlib gospel in the spirit of humble inquiry we ahall not seek in vain for the an-' swer. But it is the answer of revelation and depends on the attitude of faith for its reception. The claim is sometimes made, but falsely, that Philosophy will clip an angePs wings, Conquer all mys'teries by rule and lijie, Empty the haunted air, the gnomed mine, tlnweave a rainbow. It is the Christian position that when we have finished all our mental striving we depend, for certainty^ on tho revelation of God. That revelation is coneeived in its broadest sonse, but it comes to its clearest. and final expression in the revelation in tho Christ of history amd exporience. Christ has tlia answer to our qucries. Ho can banisu tho mists which cloud our understanding. All this is implied in His claim to be the Way, the Trutli, the L1l'o. The secrefc of His answer to lil'e's Uaffling mysteries llos in tH!is em-: phasis on the reality of the spiritual world and our relation to it. This is another way of stating His insistenl call to bolief in God. It is against the background of spiritual reality that nll the mysteries of human life are seen in their true perspoctivo.
