MAORI CHOIR COMPETITION
Five Groups Entered for Annual Festival The annual Maori ehoir competition will be held at Pakipaki beginning next Friday aud ondiug up 011 ISunday night, August 29, w'hcn tho niassed choirs will bo heard iu the Muuicipal Theatre after tho evening services. 'Two choirs are «oraing from the East Coast, ono from Hiruharama and the othor from Gisboruo, aud thero is the choir from Kohupatiki aud Waipatu known as the Heretaunga choir, tho Korongata choir, and tlie girls i'roni Hukarere Gollego will also take part iu eomo of the ituiiis, Each choir will consist of 25 vmces. Tho items iu which the choirs will taka part consist of the foilowing: — Two hymns in Maori, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Pieasant Aro Thy Gnurts"; a hyrnn, the words of which havo been composed by members of the choir; a psalm sung to an ancient Maori "liant; two male quartettes, oue sacred and ono nccular; an oirn oelection untheiu; tlie lesfc anthem " What Are These".; a secular chorus by the full choir (own seiection) ; and a female chorus, of not raore tlian .16 voices.
