Huge Floating Crane ■ The Manchester Ship Canal Company has inade an imp^rtant addition to the mechanieal -cquipment of the Port of Manchester, m the form of 9 huge electrically-operated floating crane. It is the onjy oue of its kind in existenee, and is riotable*for a liftuig power of over 250 tous. Atiantic Services Imperial Airways state that technical data of extreme value is being obtained from the' trans-Atlantic survey flights by the Caledonia and Cambria. The present series qf tests, .in which no commercial loads aro being earried, will be followed by' a second phase in which mails 'will be carried across the Atiantic. After - thiit will come tlie scheduling of two regular services in each direction weekly, carrying passengers as well. , Higher Wages As the result of uegotiations between ^epreseiltatives of employers and workers the rates of pay of British dockers are to be inereased a sKilling a day from Septeniber 20. Arctic Air Service It is reported from Ottawa that transCanadia -Airlines and Pan-American Airways will shortly diseuss the ostablishment of a trans-Arctie service linking Americaftnd Canada with China and Japan. The proposed route will be Edmondton, Fairbknks, Japan, China, A.ustralia and New Zealand.
