Many Promotions And Transfers MORE TRAINEES IN CAMP

WELLINGTON, This. Day-Sixty-two men have been called ixp for training for the Police Force and are being posted to the Trentham camp in continuance of the arrangement made with the Defence Department and which is working satjsfactorily. Recent promotxons are: To tlie rauk of sergeant, Qonstables Neary, Sargent, Lines, McGettigan (Auckland), McRie (Welfixxgton), Southward (Christchurch), and Irw.in (Dunedin); to de-tectjve-Sergeant, Detectivos McLennan (Wellington) and Thomas (Timaru), Eighteen constables who have completed their probationary service have been appointed to the' permanent staff . The inauguration of the 48-hour week involves an increase in the number of non-commissioned officers and constables, and the following constables have been appointed acting-sergeants on six nionths' trial: Constables A. Jolinson (Wellington), Davis (Mangaweka), Bonnington (Napier), who will take up. duty at Wellington; W. G. Bennett (Wellington) and W. £. Brown, of Bartletts, who is transferred to. Auckland; Mattlxewa, Coalgade, Hearns, of Riccarton, and McRae, of Akaroa, who are transferred to Christchurch; Johnston, of Tinfiaru, Hogg, of Kaitangata, to Dunedin; and McGrath, of Hamilton, who remains tliero. The 124 constables wlio liave just completed their training have been posted nxainly to tho four principal centres. The introductign of the 48-hour week also affects tho detective hranch, resulting in the proiuotion of Detectives Darling, Palmerston North, Nalder, Whangarei, and Trethewey, Christchurch, who are transferred to Auckland.
