Tlio lirst consignment of fat cattle froin Gisborne are to be railed down for hext Wednesday k sale. The consignment, it ' is underwood, will consist of>about 60 headiand will be trucked" at Nuhaka through to Longlands. At yesterday's sale at Stortford Lodge' a pcn of cows, trucked by road from Gisborne on Tuesday, arnved in splendid order and the prirne condition in whicb they came forward showed that stoek 'further north had wintered weil. Tbese cows represent the best quality in the eow. pens, being readily sought af ter by • butchers for their splendid fihish. 'Next wcek's consigninent, which '• is to mark the opening of transport of fat cattle by rail, should also ' be in good order. ' Store cattlo from. the Gisborne ■ district are weil known in Hawke's Bay. Last season several ,big lots were brought down, these being a desirable cypo for this provinc'e. Good bre'eding was a special feature and the name Will apply to the fat stoek which will help:to relieve the present shortage of prime cattle.
