The c'oncert organised by the Otane i'ootball club's Queeu Carnival conimittee which took place in the ToWii Hall last evening, proved to be one of tho Committee's most popular and successf'ul etfor'ts, Tliose responsible for the Organisation had been fottunate in soCuring niuch of the best taleiit in the distfiet and a concert of unusual merit and diversity was the rcsult. The large | audienCe was not slow to show its ap-1 j preeiation and encores, double and I even treWc, wero the order of the ovem ing. Among tho performers were Mrs Maclcenzie's dancing pupile: (Waipuku-' rau), wko gavo collectively and indiyidually throughout the eVening exlii' bitions embraeing a wide variely ot dances# cleverly and graccfully perfotmed. These included Scottish danees,- Irish jigs, tap dances, sailor's hornpipo and fancy dances. Piper Maokenzie supplied the music With his bagpipes, and the bright national coslumes, appropriate to e&cli danco, Which wero worn by the young pori'ormers, • hcightenea the chafming fclfoct. One diminutive pupil, Patricia Frcdcricksen, dressed as a piccanniny, sang Und danced in a delightful number, and another pupil exeCuted an ihtricate skipping dance. Other popular juvenile items were the musical duets by Miss Jean and Master Forbes Minto. Among the adult performers se^eral iiew to Otane audiences, The male quartette (Waipukurau) rendered 3ome pleasing nunlbors and Mrs Bcott • (Wai* pukuraU) and Mrs Knoblock (Waipawa), cliarnied with their singing. Miss Jean McKay's elo.cutionary itcmfl wero popular with the audience; Mf Dean quickly established himself as a i'avourite with his humoroUs mofiologues. Mr Catton, Mr Jini Rainey (Irish songs), and Mr Venner, Waipawa, sang songs, serious atid couiic. Accompaniments were played by Miss liiiig (Waipukurau) and Mr R, Rust (Otane). Eacn portioa of the programmo coucluded with a display by the Waipawa Gymnastic Club, with a really clever and thrilling exhibition of gymnastics. At the conciusion of the concert Mr J. MacDougall tlianked the audience for attendlng in sueli numbers aud the artists for tlie c.jfticllcnt entertainment provided. Tho artists wero accordcd musical honours by tho audience.
