NAPIER TOWNSWOMEN'S PLAYS AND MUSIC

An exefellent programme of plays and tnusic was presented by members of the literafy and musical circles oi the Napier Townswomen's Guiid- in the Iforesters' Hall. This evenfc was at~ tended by a large - nujnber of G uild mexxtbers and tbeir friends.. Clusters of • golden wattle flecorated the stage, wbile at tlio far end of the ball, were arranged tvro stalls on wliicb wero xuaixy articles for sale, the arts and crafts and gardening circles being responsible for both stalls. Tlie programme opened with two liumbers, "Qld Folbs" and "Hey For the Road," by the guild choir. These were followed by clever read-rng-cum-acting of "As It Was Iu the Beginnixig," witli the following cast Madame Pavel, Mrs B. Barnett; hliss VVhisper, Mrs Sweetapple; Mrs Sxnith, Mrs Moore ; Mrs Jones, Mrs G. Madigan; Mrs Robinson, Mrs Wood; Mrs Brown, Mrs Maney; Mrs Willet, Mrs Brodie. The guild orchestra, although a small one, gave an excellent rendoring of •'Barcarelc" axxd "Minuet in G," and Mrs Nixon delighted tho audieuee with a solo, "ln Questa Tomha." Serving as an mterval, afterixoon tea was dispexised before commencing the secoiid half of the programme, wbieh opened with a violin solo by Mrs H. W. Dowling. "Prepafing Willie for Schopl,'' was given by Mrs 0'B.alloraxi, as mothci, and Mrs Bishop as Willie. A fUrther number, "Vespcr Bells," with solo by Mrs Sorrell, was given by the choir, Which Was directed by Mrs Rosewariie. An old favourite, "Better Bide Awee," Was well suilg by Mrs Barclay. The concluding item, a play, 'Comedy Players," was well portrayed by the following members. — Master, Mrs Barnett; mistress, Mrs O'Halloran; cook, Mrs Moore; parlourmaid, Mrs G. Madigau.
