Must Not be Driven by Drivers Under 18 HASTINGS COURT CASE 9 "This is the first case of this type I have had and I do not think it is generally known that a vehicle with an unladen weight exceeding two tons must not be driven by anyone under the age of 18 years," said SeniorSergeant G. Sivyer in the Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning when Russell William Spencer, aged 17, appeared before Mr J. Miller, S.M., charged with. being under 18 years of age, drivingi a trade motor tiuck with an unladen. weight exceeding two tons. His father, George Matthew Spencer, contractor, was also charged with aiding and abetting inr the commission of the offence. Mr W. E. Bate appeared for both defendants, and a plea of g.uilty was entered in each cliarge. The Magistrate said he agreed that no doubt either party was aware of tbe provisions. There was no question of incompetenc'e. The youth was a licenced driver and the lorry was oi-ly 15cwt. over the prescribed weight. He wonld treat the case as a warning. The youth was convicted and ciischarged and his father convicted and ordered to pay costs. Other Traffic Offences. "I thought 1 was ail right if I v.as accompanied by a licenced driver as is the case with a motor-car," said Laurie David Brandon, pleading guilty to riding a motor-cycle in Heretaunga street without being the holrier of a motor-driver's licenee. Pleading guilty to failing to give way to traffic aiiproacliing from the right, Joseph David was fined £1 10/with costs 14/-.
