MINING STRIKE
Union Leader Says it Was Effective (Received 18, 1.0 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 17. Miners in the southern and western fields endorsed the settlement regarding wages reached at the conference last week. The general secretary of the Miners' Federation said that stop-work meetings and stay-in strikes had had more influence with the owners than the federation leaders' arguments.
