Protection of American Interests (Received 18, 10.40 a.m.) WASHIN GTON , Aug. 18. President Roosevelt has ordered 1200 additional marines from San Diego to Shanghai to protect American interests. Tlie Washington correspondent of the New York Times says President Roosevelt spent tlie wt ole afternoon conferring with Mr. Col dell Hull and military and naval chiefs, on China and Japan. It is "believed that an important statement on United States policy is imminent. It is understood that complete evaeuation of the battle zone is eonsidered impracticable.
