Wellington Hospital Plans Upset LOAN AUTHORITY TOO SMALL

By Telegraph

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Because of the substantial increase in building costs, the Wellington Hospital Board has found it necessary to have prepared fresh estimates for the proposed block, nurses' home and boiJer-house. The revised estimates represent _increases in the neighbourhood of 25 per ccnt., raising the estimated total cost of the hospital extensions and improvements to a figtire beyond that for which loan aulhority was granted. Unless the tende-ing shows that the cost of Ihe work has been over-estimated, fresh authorirv will have to be sought. This positr'on was revealed to- night at a meeting of the board when the building endowment and property committee recommended the board should coulirm the plans for the nurses' home and the new boiler-house on the basis of the new estimates. In the case of the nurses' home the loan authority stauds at present at £79,000, whereas the new estimate is £84,450. For the new boiler-house, the loan authority stands at £46,000, whereas the revised estimate is £52,423. IJhe position as it affects the proposed7 new main hospital block is not revealed.
