MRS. CHARLES H. SIMMONDS

A highly-respected Tesident of Napier, Mrs C. H. Simmonds, wife of Mr Charles Henry Simmonds, passed away at the Napier Public Hospital on Suiiday after a brief illness. During her lifetime the late Mrs Simmonds had been actively associated with many branches of sport. At an early age she held for many years "the New Zealand women 's walking reeord for 12 miles. In 1910, with her husband, she came to Napier and immediately associated herself with sporting circles. Mr and Mrs Simmonds formed the Te Awa Swimming Club and later formed the Te Awa Ladies' Hockey Club. Mrs Simmonds was for a number of years lady superintendent of the Napier Municipal Baths. She later staited business in the Te Awa district, but this was relinquished after the earthquake. To. mourn their loss she leaves her husband and daughter, to whom is extended the deepest sympathy.
