COVERS FOR LAMBS
Good Results Claimed By Farmers An iuterestiug exhibit at a recenfc meeting of tho Board of Governors of Canteroury Agricultural College was a speeimen lamb cover, an innovation iu the protection of early lamb life that is creating a good deal of interest. The cover slips over the head of the lamb aud is held in place by two back leg straps, as iu an ordiuary korse cover. It is reasonably priced, aud the cost should not bo an obstacle to anybody wishing to give it a trial and usiug it on tho entire crop of lambs of an average-sized flock. TEe cover necd only be used for a day or two, aecording to the weather conditions, as once the lamb has got on its lega and had a suck it can fare for i.tself. Oue weaknes that might suggest itself is that the ewo's singular instinct for sorting out its own lamb migut oe hamperod by the cover, and with tho frequent use of tho same cover even the most discriminating ewe might be bothered. However, the ewe does not determine its maternity by the part of the lamb under the cover, but from the noso and the tail-end. The lambs ordinarily are under too close observation to get into trouble with their covers, and it can be seen that if the ewes come in uniformly and without a msh a few dozen covers would meet the needs of an ordiuary flock.
