SOUTHLAND v. HAWKE'S BAY
• Too much notice should not be taken of the defeat of Southland by Manawatu last Monday. Actually the Southland team played remarkable football, and their heeling from the rueks and screwing of the scrums denoted sound football tactics. Their forwards wero fast and the baeks enterprising. Four of their players including Ward, the All Black, were rested. Manawatu. played one of their extra go^od games, but even ■ so they were fortunate to finish ahead. To sflit the convenience of those desirous of seeing the match, apart from those who have Thursday as their weekly h'alf-holiday, the Ilugby Union have decided that the match on Thursday will eommence at 3.35 p.nf. Tho Southland team will reach Hastings by the expresa to-night.
