By May of this year the percentage had fallen to 7. This is the story of increase.d employmenfc as told by the State statistician — In June, 1933, there were 478,000 people in piivate employment By June, 1935, the number had increased to 567,000. By June, 1937, it had reached 650,000. The increase of private employment, therefore, had been bo per cent. in four years. The Premier (Mr, Stevens) estimates that jobs will be available for between 30,000 and 40,000 persons during the next 12 months. The greatest single problem remaining in connection with the unemployed is the finding of jobs for workless youths, and the Government is making a vigorous drive to provide them with work. At least 10,000 youths and boys will be placed in the eurrent year.
