COLOURFUL SCENE AT HUNT BALL AT WAIPAWA

Large Crowd of Hunting Enthusiasts

Cocktail parties and gay buffet dinner parties arranged by Waipawa hostesses paved the way for the very successful Hunt Club ball organised by Waipawa members of the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club, which was lield on Friday evening in the Waipawa Municipal Theatre, such an auspieious occasiou, attraeting the hunting enthusiasts and their friends from all parts of Hawko ;s Bay, all being determined to make the evening distiuguished for its happiness and gaiety. The danee hall was bedecked with streamers of brackon, and both big anil small coloured balloons hung from a centre decoration of massed balloons and bracken out to each corner of -the hall, while appropriate hunting postens wero arranged at intervals round the walls. Mrs D. Holden and helpers wero responsible for these eifective decorations. The floral decorations on the stago. arranged by Miss Kuapp and helpers, were charming. Across the front of the stage was erected a low fencs, eomposed of palest pink camellias and japoniea, and trailing up the trellis at each side of the stage were coloured leaves and camellias, tho base of tho trellis being massed with white jonquils. The low iloral f euce was backed with a low table topped with a kugo basket of beautifui japonica, with camellias trailing over the sides. The archway at the back of the stage was filled in with native fiax and similar flowers. In the supper-room, Mrs Bill Harris and helpers gave ample evidence tliat spring had arrived, the long tables being decorated with crystal and silver bowls, filled with gay golden daffodils, and smaller bowls massed with fragrant violets. A delicious supper, with poultry, sandwiches and a variety of savouries, was set out and much appreciated by the dancers. From the stage Wi Duncan's orchestra played bright and sparkling music, and the hunting spirit was very evident .throughout the programme 10 the final "gallop" to the tuae VDu Ye "Ken John Peel." • The success of the ball was due largely to the untiring efforts of the joint secrotaries, Misses K. Butler and J. Pattison. and Mesdames H. Rathbone (organiser), C. Gibliu, Pat. White, L. Ford, D. Holden, Bill Harris; Misses N. Butler, M. Pattison, R. Monckton, M. Nation, D. Knapp, J. Ormond, Prue Wilder, B. Tod, J. Price, E. White. V. Harding, Eay Fleming, Jean. Hunter, L. Parsons, and Addis. Rome members of the htmt sported wTTTTe lapels, and their womenfolk and guests honoured the occasion with gay and lovely frocks, Among those present were: — Mr and Mrs Thornley Sherratt, the latter gowned in bronzo velvet, tbe draped corsage caugbt with a round amber broock, worn with a long matching cape. Mr and Mrs Harry Rathbone, the latter wearing a becoming frock in scarlet wind-swept satin, the folded corsage tinished with a big gold rose. Mrs C. Giblm, graceful gown in black chantilly lace, having a vestee of finely tucked flesh-coloured georgette. Mrs .Dudley Newbigin, Freiich ivory thffeta patterned with deep purple clematis and blue, fashioned with a liared tunic, and rolled purple velvet shoulder straps. Mrs Bob Stead, deepest blue cotellb, fashioned with a high front neckline, the flared sboulder epaulettes finished at back with a dianiante buckJe. Mrs E. W. Ormond, gowned in blackberry cloque, the liont neckline finished with a spray of velvet pansies. Mrs F. Logan, deep prune chiffon velvet frock, having a draped corsage. Mrs T. 8. Norris, ivory chilion liowered in pink, having a pleated shoulder cape and sash of clierry taffeta. Mrs J. Kendall, prinoess frock in silver grey satin, the short shoulder cape faced with royal purple satin. Mrs F. C. Daniels, orchid mauve, stiffened taffeta, having folded shoulder frills and full skirt. Mrs Guy Gaddum (Gisborne), black chenille stamped velvet, with a deep flared hemline of black satin. Mrs Peter Plummer, mulberry georgette, the shoulder frills edged with satin, and narrow satin frills on skirt. Mrs Jim Lowry, black chantilly lace frock, worn with a handsome fox fur. Mrs F. Hansen, frock in fiaine cloque striped in silver, having a corsage bow lined with silver iame. Mrs A. Rathbone, slim-fashioned frock in biack crepe, having short puffed spangled silver sleeves. Mrs Rood, black satin frock, worn with a silver corsage spray.

Mrs D. Douglas, parma violet georgette frock, the long sash lined with silver lame. Mrs Douglas, pastel blue cotelle, having a wide folded silver belt. Mrs Douglas Lane, royal purple crepe frock. finished with a silver lame belt. Mrs Katranski was wearing a white satin frock patterned in black. Mrs W.
