VARIETY OF PLAYS
Drama League Festival A wide variety of plays will he presented at the drama festival in the Hastings Municipal Theatre on Monday and Tuesday next. Teams are competing from the Napier Repertory Players, the Hawke's Bay Little Theatre Society, the Catholic Dramatic Club, and the Havelock Players. The Glyngarth Studio has entered two teams, and from Wallingford Mrs Peter Canning is bringing a successful team, which competed at the recent Waipukurau festival. The Hawke's Bay branch of the British Drama League, which has already promoted several of these highly successful annual festivals, has recognised the growing public interest in drania by engaging the Municipal Theatre. This theatre, in addition to providing additional seating accoinmodation and comfort for the audience offers excellent facilities for performers and waits between plays can be cut down to a miniinum. Tho adjudicator will be Miss Helon Gardner, of Wellington, whose wort in the dramatic field is well known by many Hawke's Bay residents. Her comment upon the plays and performers will be listened to with much interest. The winners will be announced at the eonclusion of the second evening 's performances. , The Manawatu drama festival, which was held this week. evoked unusual interest and tho Palmerston North Opera House was well filled throughout tho three-night season. Miss Elizabeth Loe was the judge and awarded first place to the Palmerston North Little Theatre Society for its performanco of "Privy Councillor" with hlrs Lorna Bristow as producer. The Marton Players came second with "The Charlady and the Angel."
