Woman President for U.S. Predicted by Mrs. Roosevelt
NEW YOEK. — Mrs Franklin D. Eoosevelt has expressed a convietion that "there will be a woman president some day, but that « day is not yet here.33 Mrs Eoosevelt, in response to a question by a young woman high schooi graduate, said, "we women have still to prove ourselves33 and at present she did not believe the eountry . as • a wholo would have enougb confidence in a woman president. "And witbout tbat confidence and co-operation sbe could not do a good 30b/ 3 sbe added. , In reply to otber questions asked by Miss Constanee Eberbardt, 17, during a broadcast addressed to graduating classr es tbroughout tbe eountry, Mrs Eoosevelt said- she believed* tbere would be inoreased ppportunities for women in tbe diplomatie service and expressed tbe opinion that a college education could be "very helpful33 to the housewife. "There comes a time wben your job as bousewife and motber is not entire ly sufiicient lo "occupy you,33 sbe said."Tben, if you3ve bad some Lraining, you can tUrrnit into some cohstructive work.'"3 ...... Mrs Eoosevelt agreed tbat charm and personality were -important in obtaining a'job, but said ability was "all import--tant 33- in bolding it. ."So. many girls. make tbe mistake of Ihinking tbey can get tbrougb on cbarm,33 sbo said. "That's wbat men resent. In business, women sbould be considered as individuals. Tbey have to make their own reputations, and they cannot expect men to treat thcm ihe same way on the job as they might socialiv.
