Smash Near Taupiri

HAMILTON, Aug. 13. Passenger and goods traffie was disorganised for over twelve hours as the result of a train smash near Taupiri late last night. Considerable damage Was done to the permanent way and wagons. The accident occurred at 11.30 pon. and the passengers had to be transhipped by buses over the damaged section to the line. It was anticipated that the normal; schedule would be in operation by mid-' day. The collision occurred as the trains were proceeding in the same direction. They left Huntly at ten-minute intervalsi, the first stopping as the result of a damaged bumper. The following train was unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the stationary trueks. The Department stated this morning that the excursion trains to Wellington would run to schedule.
