Seaman Boy to SubLieutenant, R.N.

WELLINGTON, Lasf Night. An announcemSnt that Actihg-Fetty Officer Thomds Ian Harray; a New ZeaI land rating, had been selected for promotion to the rank of Sub-Lieufenant in the Royal Navy from September, Was made by the Minister of Defence,- Hon. ' F. Jonei, to-hight. Mr. Harray is a son of Mr. John Harray; of Te Poi, Matamata, Waikato, and wae born on Mareh t, 1916. He entered ihe training ship Philomel on july 15, 1932, as a boy second-class. He was given accelerated advaneement to drdinary seaman on September 1, 1933, and to able seaman on December 1, 1934. Mr. Harray will join a number of' other acting-sub-lieutenants about his own age, who are to undergo courses for the rank of lieutenant at the Greenwich College and other naval schools.
