Th'at is th© question that the Hastings and ■ District Progtess League liopes will be shortly on the lips of all liouseholders in tho ho rough, The league has in niind the sponsorxhg of .a competition for tho best-kept garden. and proposes to seek the co-opei'-ation of other interested local orgaUisations. , The conduct of sucl» a competition was discussed at the last meeting of the league, aud it was decided to appfoack the Townswomen's Guild, the Uonimunity Club and the Hortieultural Society and other organisations tb app'oint delegatbg to form a committOe to go into the ' question of rules and com ditiohs for sUCh U contest. Special 5hvitatioiis are to be extended to Mes'dames Tosswill aDd H. M. Wilsonj ahd Mfe's'sfs. Commin and G.1 D. \V ilsdn, tO- ac't as delegates witil the otkei' fep'feSOhtatiyes on the special coUMitte'e. It was agi'eed that the committce should appoint its own judges, drU'W up a schedule and make recommendations fbr the hutiiber bf prizes. As a basis upon which to work, tho league suggests that the competition should be condueted in two classes, one for flower gardens of not more than a quai'ter-acre in extent and the other for vegetable gardens, the upkeep of wlxich does not eall for the exiiployment of outside labour.
