Meeting of Committee V The 'monthly meeting of the Hastings West School Committee' was held last Bight. Pxesent: Messrs Mackersey (cliair), Driller (headmaster), Westerman, Britten, Harvey, Matthews, Miller, Tr'eacher, Trumper ahd Golello. Suggestions that native trees and shrubs should be grown at the school irom seeds and seedlings to be planted in the . grounds- during . the eeutenary celebrations were considered, and it was docided to make anangements. it being considered some space would be avaiisble for. planting. .During. the past-few years a latge nuniber of native trees and^shrubs have been planted in the sehool grounds. It was resolved to express the committee 's appreciation and thanks to the Hawke's Bay Hferald-Tribune for the fineidonation of a .framed picture of the five mbnarchs since 1888 and two views of Hastings, one in 1888 and the other to-day. It was ' deeided to close the school from 11 a-m. on September 15 for the Springboks-Hawke 's Bay match. The headmaster reported that Messrs Britten and Trumper had given the boys a practieal demonstration of pruning roses and fruit trees at the *sehool which had been greatly appre- . ciatedL Mr Trumper 's offer to growsome seedling fruit trees for -further demonstration in the future was acceptect with thanks.
