In tbo Supreme Court to-day Oci'oro Mr. Justice Ivennedy, Mr. Gordon J, Iieed uppJicd i'or a writ of babeas eorpua i'or tke releaso of Lrie Clarence Taylor, garage proprietor, of Invercargill, who on Wednesday was convictod in the Magistrate's Court by Mr. W. H. Frccman, S.M., on a cbarge of negligent driving and sentenced t0 14 days; imprisonment. Counsel claimed that prisoner had jbeen wrongfully convicted. The motion was mentioned this aftorinoon when fixtures wero being arrangied, and his Honour said that on sucli an application counsel was entitled to be heard in priority to all other business. Mr. Reed said he had just lodged the application and was not yet ready to argue -the matter. The Crown had not yet been served. His Honour suggested that counsel move for a rule nisi during the afternoon, and a,t a Jater stage his Honour grauted a rule nisi 'in Ckambers and arranged to hcar the substantive application on Monclay mprning, i -- •
