SUB-UNI0N DISCUSSES MANY MATTERS

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. There was a large attendanee at the fortnightly meeting of the Central Hawke's Bay Rugby Sub-Union last night. Mr A. L. McCormick presided over Messrs R. S. Ricketts, W. Cuthbertson, G. Voyce, R. D- Sharpe, T. Nicol, G. Harvey, C. A. Gailagher, W. J. Phillips, G. Ferguson, A. W. Parsons, V. Parsons and O. M. Williamson (secretary). An apology for absence was received irom Mr I. French. Mr V. Parsons reported that a match between Waipawa and Waipukurau District High Sckools had been arranged as a curtain-raiser to the college game, Te Aute versus Palmerston JNorth Boys' High School, at Waipawa, on August 21. It was detided that Te Aute play their annual fixture against St. Pat's College, Silverstream, at Waipawa on September 4. The match is usually played at Takapau, but owing to travelling inconveniences for other boys at tbe college who" wish to see the game, Te Aute College requested that it be played at either Waipawa or Waipukurau. Mr " A. L. McCormick' pointed out that Itugby supporters in Waipawa would welcome the match, especially as they had no senior team, and it would help football there considerably. Mr W. J. Phillips moved that the last series of games arranged for August 28 be playe'd a week earlier, on the 21st. Any games arranged for August 21 could be played afterwards, he said. The motion was seconded by Mr G. Voyce and carried. A further motion by Mr Kedgley, that all games arranged for August 21 be cancelled, and ihe final games be played on that date, was carried. The question of whether the final game at Waipukurau on August 21 between Waipukurau and Takapau be played at an" early hour so, as to enable enthusiasts to see " the college match at Waipawa on' the same afternoon, was discussed. The matter was lei't in the hands of the clubs' delegates-, ' Messrs C. A. Gailagher and W. Cuthbertson, and the secretary of the sub-union, to arrange the most suitable time. Mr A. W. Parsons extended an invitation- to teams to travel to Porangahau ahd play. He said there was aii excellent ground, and it 5 would help football there a great deal if teams could play at Porangahau. I'he chairinan said that - he would like to seP some teams inake the effort. It Was decided that the final of the third grade competition between Takapau and Dld Boys be played -at Taka•pdu on August 28. * Inquiry into Onga tncident. An inqniry was made into an iucident which occurrcd wheri. "Tikokino played Ongaonga at Ongaonga, on July 31, " when a. Tikokino player, Beck, was ordered off the field for allegedly striking anbthef - playef . during the game, The referee. wh'o was unable to attend, wrote explaining th'e incident and saying that tlie* player concerned had been usihg rough tactics during the second half arid was ordered -.off (when he struck another player. The secretary of the sub-union read a letter which had been sent to the secretary bf the Tikokino Club, to be forwarded to the player concerned. The player. however, had not arrived at the meeting. The chairinan said that as he had not arrived to defend himself, they could' only judge - him guilty," and he .movqd that Beck be suspended for the remfiinder of this season 'and all next season. '-'Mr* G. Voyce moved an affiendment that the player remain nnder suspension'- until* 6uch ' timo as he came before the sub-union. ' ** ' " Mr Vl Parsons suggested ihat the sub-union make certain that Beck had received the letter issued by the seo rotary. The chairinan Baid that the letter had been promptly sent '.'to the secretary- of the Tikokino Club, to be forwarded to the player concerned, and Jie should have received it. A further ameudment by Mr R. S. llicketts, that th'e matter be held over till the nest meeting to try and ascertain if Beck -had received notificatibn -to appear before the sub-Union, was .seconded; and carried, the player still to remain under suspension. Springboks ,lMatch. A letter .from . the Mawke's Bay Rugby Union ; stat.ed that school children ! attended- by ^teachers would be admitted to McLean Park, Napier, on the occasion of the Springboks v. Hawke's Bay match at 6d- perihead. The letter also asked the sub-union to ascertain tb'e number likely to attend. ' Mr V. Parsons thought that the teachers- would be p'repared to attend; with- children desiring to see tbe game provided they could- close the schools. Iniormation was rceived thafc . the schools' i> tournament for the . Ross Shield is to be played at Hastings this year. _ The Dannevirke Sub-Union wrote asking that- re'presentative games against Central "Hawke's Bay senior and juuiqr teams be lield over to next season. , It wa s. decided to ask the Hastings Sub-Union if they could .find a date to play Central' Hawke's' Bay junior representatiYes at Hastings. ... ,
