xv A1PAWA, Last Night, The erxgiixeer to the Patangata County Councxl, Mr. J, 0, McLxxuchlan, reported as xjnder at tbe eouneil'g nxontbJy' meeting:— Porangahau Bidiug. — Except for the clearing of the watortables little work has been done on this highway for the month. Potholes have developed iix places and a start is heing jnade to repair these. Tho Herbertville road kas also pot-holes m places ahd xyill bc patclied duriiig the xveelc. An inspection was made of this road recently and it is in good order except for a few sections. The grader. is raking in the flat on Cook's Toeth road, which xvas rather rough. The Beach road and McAuleys havo been shouldered by the' Booth xuachine, and the surfaee trimnxed, and though some patchiug is fequired this has made a considerablf Improvement. The watortables on the Old Hill road havo been cleared. The Mangaorapa rpads require the grader, and this will be sent along as soon as available, Eparaima Eiding.— The grader raked i,n the main highway during the month, but it is stjll rough in .places, very little matawai being available to jll! the rougher sections. The coating of St. Lawrence road with, river shingle will be continued as opportunity permitis, The. Atua roa.d will be raked in by the grader during thia week, Tamumu and Pourerere Roads. — The grader -has raked in these xoads dur.ing the month and they are in good order. A surplus of river shingle has been removed from portions of tbis road and spread on sections requiriixg same. The overhaul of Butler 'fi bridge xvas put in hanl during the past month and the sheotiug on the abutmeuta ha'i been re/owcd where roqnired, and a new wing wall put in on the coast sido, The decking was thcn repaired and runniug decking put on over the whole of the decking as it was not in too good condition. This xvork will mahe ihe bridge safo for eoxno time, though the ideviatiozt of this road ut tbjis bridge should bo kepl iii mind. The Long Eango road xvas given a light coat of river shingle for over txvo rniles. The Clareinch road has been raked in and is in good order. Mangatarata Eiding. — The soutb gang were shifted out to Mangatarata about two week'3 ago to clcar watex'. tables and a nurnber of corners xvhicb had filled up and this work has com- ' pleted last week. Some planting of bitter willow was also done last week,. ^he grader ie required urgently on this road and will go out as soon as available. The laying ofi! of the Easement road was^pushed' on during the month and thfs is now comploted except for the taking of tlie levels on the four rniles Of rodd, Mr. Tappin has been on the survey of this road during this month, and the field work is now near* ly eonxpleted, The platis of the work are in band and t 'espuct to completo* th# level work this month. t
