AUGUST MEETING HELR OF TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

* Beautiful bowls of iceland poppies and " yellow jonquils arranged with bronte nandenal i'oliage, dec'orated the sfage of the Hastings Oddf ellows ' Hall, and also the president 's table, for the August meeting of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild. The president, Mrs A. iF. Glenny, extended a ivelcome to all new members and visitors, among the latter being Mrs Cameron, president of the Port Ahuriri Guild, and Mrs McCarthy. . Tlianks vrere extended to all who had assisted to niako the birthday party so successful, and the conipetition commenced on that day was flnished at yesterday's meeting. The pnze, a beautifully-made Micke^y and Minnie Mouse, presented by a guild member^ was won by Mrs J. Hergusson. An invitation was received from the W.C.T.U. for guild members to attend their monthly meeting on August 2G, when the speaker would be Miss C. E. Kirk, Dominion corresponding 6ecretary of the W.C.T.U. Members were also reminded that the Scptembcr programme for the guild would be giveu by Miss Jean Ballantyne, whose subjeet would be the dances of other countries with illustrations. A seedling stall would also be held at this meeting. Mrs A. F. Glenny, president, and Mrs F. Deans, secretary, were chosen to represent the Hastings Guild at the council meeting to be held in Wellington in September. The musical programme for the afternoon was of a Scottish nature, and was most appropriate, because the speaker was Mrs H. W. C. Baird, who chose for her subjeet "Queen Elizabeth." Madamo Mercer sang two solos, "Ye Banks and Braee'' and "The Bonnie Briar Bush," which were .delightfully rendered. After tea had been enjoyed a short tableau was given. Mrs Roes Kemp sang "Four Marys,'' and the tabieau was formed by Mary, Queen of Scots (Miss Euth Small), and her four Marys (Mesdames V. L. Westerman, Innefe Campbell, Hill and E. Y. Comrie)' in costume. Miss B. McKutchon capably accompanied Madame Mercer and Mrs Bees Kemp. Mrs H. W. C. Baird 's talk was a most delightful one, and the subjeet _ she chftse ■"'•Queen Elizabeth," of special interest to all present. At the conclusion -Mrs A. F.
