\ Tenders are invited for new offices and additions to buildings for the Central Hawke 's Bay Electric Power Board at Waipukurau. Tenders close at the board's offices, Waipukurau, at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 30. On Thursday evening at eight o'clock in the - Pasadena tea-rooms, a lecture course under the general head "Trends of Social Change" will be commenced by Mr Martin-Smith, M.A., LL.B, Dip. Ed. This course will consist of six lectures, the first being "The Background of Western Democracy". All those interested in current events should avail themselves of this opportunity of listening to one well* qualified to speak. It must also be understood that the W.E.D. is non-political and non-sectarian. In accordance with its traditions, questions will be invited. The Hawke's Bay Drama League annual festival will be held on Monday, August 16, and Tuesday, August 17, at the Municipat Theatre, "Hastings.
