Cowie, bowling with good pace and considerable - life, enabled the tourists to dismiss the last six Essex batsmen before lunch. Weir played an excellent innings, driving strongly and placing the ball ,well on the leg side. His half-century took 75 minutes to compile. He hit six fouxs. The fifth and sixth wickets fell in quick succession.
