British Tlanes to he Increased PROTECTING SHiPPING

Hector By water, writing in the Daily Telegraph, says that Britain intends to mako the fleot air-arm the spearhead of the navy's power and this will be ahead of all foreign countries in quulity and second only to the United Bt'ates in quality. After the new caiTiers and catapult-ships are completed, they will have 520 planes for carriers and 165 on catapult-ships compared ivith a total of 20 0' at the presqnt. Further increases will be made later. Lower deck ratings ivill be trained as pilots. Metliqcls of take-offi and alightipg 011 the sea are being developed to 'euable to air arm to qp'erate in any weather exeept storms. A system of long-range patrols to. warn against air raids and protpct the shipping in the Epglish Ghannel is also being introduced.
